This was another hard working week in Grade 4!
In math, we practiced comparing and ordering 3-digit and 4-digit numbers. We learned how to play an ordering number game called Corn Shucks. The game rules are: the first player rolls 4 dice and creates the largest number possible. Then the second player rolls 4 dice and creates the smallest number possible. The third player rolls 4 dice and tries to make a number in-between the first 2 numbers. If they can’t, they are out and say “oh shucks”. The last person to say “oh shucks” is the winner. This week we sorted numbers using Venn and Carroll diagrams. We can sort numbers based on their attributes or the criteria. We can’t wait to do more. It was hard at first but after we did it a couple times it was easy.
In Reading, we read a comic and an information piece about Terry Fox. We practiced showing our understanding by answering some questions about what we read.
In writing, we wrote an independent piece to show our teacher what we have learned so far. We also are beginning to indent and use paragraphs. It’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it. We are almost done a demand piece for our teacher. We wrote about our heros too because of the Terry Fox walk.
In Science, We did an experiment or a lab on what is transparent and what was translucent and the one that has no light is called opaque. We played with mirrors and light to explore reflection. We’re not done this yet.
In Art, we are working on still life sketches because we learned about light and shadows.
Today, we went on a misty adventure through the trails behind Lakewood Heights School to raise money and awareness for the Terry Fox Research Foundation to help cure cancer.
In French, we learned about Thanksgiving vocabulary, we read the book Mon Sac d’ecole for the class, and we practiced talking to each other.
We set academic and personal goals this week and we’re keeping track of our progress in our data binders.
